Honeywell Completes Acquisition Of Xtralis

While Xtralis’ IntrusionTrace video content analytic is i-LIDS® approved, Xtralis has enhanced it with many new features that make it far more powerful, exceeding i-LIDS specifications, to deliver eGuard capabilities. With XOa 3.2, IntrusionTrace offers greater control parameters for suppression of common causes of false alarms. Improved sensitivity controls offer intuitive 5-way contrast and 5-way object setting for up to 25 sensitivity levels for precise detection. Xtralis VESDA aspirating smoke detectors provide fire prevention for the new Abu Dhabi Airport Midfield Terminal

Xtralis VESDA VLS aspirating smoke detectors will provide fire prevention at the new Abu Dhabi International Airport Midfield Terminal Building (MTB), scheduled to open in 2017. The MTB will be the largest in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, and one of the region’s most architecturally impressive structures. Xtralis VESDA & VESDA-E aspirating smoke detectors (ASD) now protect many of the United Arab Emirates super structures, including the Burj Khalifa, Emirates Palace Hotel, and Dubai & Abu Dhabi International Airports. The new Midfield Terminal Complex (MTC) will have 700,000 sq-m of internal space for a passenger terminal (MTB), cargo facility, and restaurant and retail space. The size of the MTC is so impressive that it will be visible from 1.5 km away. The facility can accommodate 8,500 passengers per hour and up to 30 million per year. The VESDA LaserScanner (VLS) is similar to the VESDA LaserPlus (VLP) detector, but also includes a valve mechanism in the inlet manifold and software to control the airflow from the four sectors (pipes). This configuration enables a single zone to be divided into four separate sectors, for example, distinguishing between separate voids within a room. The VLS draws air from all sectors in use. If the smoke level reaches the Adaptive Scan Threshold, the VLS performs a Fast Scan of each pipe to identify which pipe is carrying smoke. If more than one pipe is transporting smoke, the sector with the highest smoke concentration is scanned first. Once Fast Scan is completed and the sector with the highest smoke concentration is identified, the VLS continues to closely monitor all four sectors (pipes) to monitor fire growth and maintain full protection of the area. There are four alarm levels (Alert, Action, Fire 1 and Fire 2) for each sector (pipe) and the sensitivity for each alarm level can be set to ensure the optimum alarm thresholds are applied for each sector. Called the XOa Performance+ Pack, the upgrade delivers a 50% reduction in the cost per channel for the world’s best-value for pro-active and intelligent intrusion, loitering, and perimeter security. VESDA protects the new £10 million Ricardo Vehicle Emissions Research Centre (VERC)

Xtralis VESDA VLP & VLC aspirating smoke detectors are providing very early warning smoke detection for the Ricardo Vehicle Emissions Research Centre (VERC) , a new facility for the development of next-generation of clean, low carbon vehicles located in Shoreham, UK. Ricardo is a global engineering, strategic and environmental consultancy, founded by Sir Harry Ricardo in 1915, sharing his vision for maximising efficiency and eliminating waste. The new Ricardo VERC features a brand new building with two vehicle test cells capable of testing passenger cars and light trucks of up to 3 tonnes, including advanced technology hybrid electric vehicles. The facility is climatically controlled with a temperature range of -35 to +55 Celsius and helps Ricardo test new vehicles for a global market to far more extreme limits than would previously have been possible. Xtralis provides a wide range of safety and security solutions for vehicle research and retail applications.

UK fire prevention specialist Southern Fire Alarms (SFA) was selected by Ricardo, to provide reliable and resilient fire prevention at the landmark facility. While extreme temperature changes posed a huge challenge for reliable smoke detection, SFA delivered Xtralis VESDA VLP and VLC detectors.

“This project was the most technically challenging I have ever worked on,” commented David Fell, Sales Director at SFA. “The vehicle test cells needed to be protected by detection which could not only operate effectively in extreme cold temperatures, but also extreme heat as well. We deployed VESDA detectors and worked closely with the construction team to ensure the installation was faultless and a technically challenging project was delivered successfully,” Fell added.
